About the Role:
We have two Advisor, Policy roles within the Policy Group in the Regulatory Management System and Regulatory Policy Design teams. The role provides an opportunity to build a wide range of transferable skills and knowledge quickly, that will benefit you throughout your policy career.
The specific work and focus of the role will change over time to reflect the priorities of the Ministry and Minister for Regulation, but you can expect to:
- Gather evidence, analyse policy issues, develop options and prepare advice
- Support the operation of the Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) system
- Contribute to larger, more complex projects where others have the accountability for the delivery of outputs
- Write papers and briefings and prepare material for presentations.
As part of the broader Policy group, you will have an opportunity to contribute to a variety of work across the group and the wider Ministry. The roles operate in a complex and dynamic environment, requiring flexibility, sound judgement, and the ability to manage both fast-paced and long-term tasks while building effective relationships.
About you:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a tertiary qualification (or equivalent government experience)
- Has at least 12 months' experience working in a policy role
- Demonstrates personal integrity, sound judgement and an honest and ethical approach
- Is actively building their knowledge of a range of policy frameworks and methods
- Is a critical and logical thinker, able to proactively research and quickly understand complex issues, and apply judgement to determine what is most relevant
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates attention to detail
- Has demonstrated the ability to quickly form good relationships and work effectively, empathetically and collaboratively in a team environment
- Understands and is committed to the impact regulation has on the lives of every New Zealander.

Salary range: $79,078 – $104,887 dependent on skills and experience.
