About the Role:

The role sits within our Policy Group, which leads work across:

• Regulatory management and strategic coordination
• Regulatory stewardship across the public sector
• Regulatory impact analysis
• Second-opinion advice on major regulatory proposals across government.

We’re looking for a seasoned policy professional ready to operate at a high level; someone confident leading workstreams, guiding others, and delivering high-impact advice across the public sector.

You’ll be part of our Regulatory Stewardship team, providing advice on cross-cutting issues that affect multiple regulatory systems and supporting agencies in their stewardship responsibilities. The work is varied, strategic, and often complex - requiring sound judgement, adaptability, and a systems-thinking mindset.

You’ll also have opportunities to contribute across the wider Policy Group and Ministry.

What you’ll bring:

• 5+ years’ experience in public policy, ideally with exposure to regulatory policy and systems 
• A tertiary qualification (or equivalent government experience), with a background in public policy, law or economics a plus
• Strong understanding of government processes, policy frameworks, and the machinery of government
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex ideas and influence effectively
• Proven ability to lead work independently and support others in a team setting
• The ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Strategic thinking and political acumen
• A genuine commitment to improving regulation for all New Zealanders.

Salary range: $108,126 - $143,618 dependent on skills and experience.
